Ray Quinn Biography 2000 to Present.

Ray Quinn (born 25 August 1988) is an English  Singer, Actor, Dancer and Double Dancing on Ice champion.

He first came to the public’s attention in his role as Anthony Murray in Brookside from 2000 to 2003 and recently returned to his TV acting roots in Hollyoaks as Jonny Baxter, with a high profile and challenging role that came to an end in winter 2019.   In 2006 he auditioned for the third series of The X Factor, winning over fans, performing with Westlife in the final and coming second only to Leona Lewis.

Ray’s multi-talented TV career continued in fourth series of Dancing on Ice in 2009 stunning judges and viewers alike, being compared to the professional skaters on the show such was his talent.  He regularly received 10’s from the judges and went on to win the ‘Champion of Champions’ series in 2014.

On 22 February 2015, he was the winner of the first series of Get Your Act Together, where he was coached to do some incredible impressions, by the Comedienne Debra Stephenson.  One review commenting ‘he succeeds at anything he puts his hand to’

2000 - 2005 : Career beginnings in acting.

From 2000 to 2003, Ray portrayed the role of victimised yet tormented child Anthony Murray in the Channel 4 soap opera, Brookside. He performed and was credited under his full name, Raymond Quinn. Murray’s featured storylines on the programme included bullying and murder.  The child killing became a controversial subject on television and in the media, with some calling it one of the most shocking storylines in British television history. His dramatic performance as Murray was well received by critics and fans.

Other acting roles included a guest role in Merseybeat and an episode of the BBC series The Afternoon Play.

2006 : The X Factor.

In the third series of the X Factor, which regularly drew in over 12 million viewers, Ray auditioned with a medley of ‘Ain’t that a kick in the head and ‘Devil in disguise’ and progressed through to bootcamp.

In the 16-24’s category, Ray had Simon Cowell as his mentor and sang ‘Smile’ and was put through to the live shows, where he continued to flourish.  He appeared in the live final, earning his second place to Leona Lewis.

2007 to 2008 : Doing It My Way & Solo Tour.

In December 2006, two days after finishing on The X Factor, Ray signed a record deal with Cowell’s label SYCO to release his album.  Recording process for the album began through January 2007 at the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles, where he was accompanied by a 48-piece orchestra.  ‘Doing It My Way’ was released on 12 March 2007. The album became a critical and commercial success entering the UK Album Chart at number one. It sold 127,000 copies in its first week of release, before being certified platinum.

Ray made British music history as he was the youngest male solo artist and the first person ever, to have a number one album without releasing a single. Ray then embarked on his solo tour from September to November 2007, where he performed in 30 cities across the UK to sell out audiences.

2009 - 2015 : Television and stage.

Ray participated as a contestant on the fourth series of Dancing on Ice. He was paired with professional skater Maria Filippov.  Throughout the series, the couple earned consistently high scores and praise from the Ice Panel each week.  On 22 March 2009, he and Filippov won the competition over Donal MacIntyre and Jessica Taylor.

From May to November that year, he played Danny Zuko in the West End production of Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre.  In 2011, he reprised the role of Danny for two weeks in his hometown at the Liverpool Empire.

In December 2012, Quinn was cast as the title character in the Aladdin musical, alongside comedian and presenter Don Maclean and actor Tim Flavin. He played the role at the Poole Lighthouse Theatre until 6 January 2013. He also portrayed Peter Pan in Peter Pan at the Liverpool Empire from December 2013 to January 2014.

Ray later returned to participate on Dancing on Ice, for the Champion of Champions series of the show, where he was again paired with Maria Filippov.

On 9 March 2014, he and Filippov were crowned the Champions of the series once more and ultimate winners of the programme, beating Hayley Tamaddon and Beth Tweddle for the title.

In January 2015, he was a contestant on the celebrity talent show, Get Your Act Together. His mentor was actress and impressionist Debra Stephenson, from whom he learned and mastered the art of impressions, in a stunningly short amount of time.  Quinn was announced as the winner of the series, with impressions of Alan Carr and Louis Walsh amongst the most notable.

2015 - 2018 : Theatre Musicals & Touring.

January 2015 it was revealed that Ray was working on new material for his upcoming studio album titled called Dare to Dream touring the UK to promote the album with his band at sold out venues throughout 2015 into 2016.

In May 2015, Ray was part of the cast of Judy: The Judy Garland Songbook, alongside other top West End names Lorna Luft and Louise Dearman. The show featured never before seen clips and interviews of Garland herself, as well as live performances of her original songs.

Jan 2017, he joined the cast of the UK Theatre production of The Wedding Singer playing Glenn. The musical was based upon the hit romcom Movie starring Adam Saddler and Drew Barrymore.

March 2018 Ray was delighted to be asked to tour again with Dancing On Ice once again wowing with his skating skills in front of thrilled audiences across the UK with celebrity skaters Jake Quickenden, Kem Cetinay and Cheryl Baker.  ‘Ray, once again, won the majority of these shows.’

April 2018 Ray joined the cast of Summer Holiday, cast in the lead role of Don made famous in the hit movie by Sir Cliff Richard. He performed such classics as Bachelor Boy, Summer Holiday & Dancing Shoes.

2018 - present : Hollyoaks And parr street studios.

Sept 2018 Ray plays Jonny Baxter in Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks. His character is an employee at The Bean and part of a right-wing extremist group.  Once again taking on a challenging role, one which came to a conclusion in November 2019.

During his time in Hollyoaks, looking to the future and returning to his love of performing, Ray signed a deal with Northern Powerhouse Music and began recording with a forty piece orchestra, at the world famous Parr Street Studios in Liverpool.

The album is a collection of classic Covers that spans several decades along with some original songs.

Ray said ;  ‘Can’t’ wait  for my fans to hear this record .  It’s been a total labour of love putting this album together, covering some of my favourite artists that have inspired me over the years as well as having the opportunity to record some new songs.

‘Undeniable’ by Ray Quinn will be released in 2020.

He reprised his role as Aladdin again at the Liverpool Empire, from 13 December 2014 to 4 January 2015, alongside Claire Sweeney as the Genie and Pete Price as the Emperor.
